The Caterpillar room π; incorporates the ‘Prime areas’ for learning, giving the children the opportunities to explore heuristic play, treasure baskets, small world, there is a hard floor area for the children to explore different messy play activities from; sand, water, painting, play dough etc and lots of other play experiences. The area also has a nappy-changing room, toilet and hand washing facilities, sleep room and bottle-making facilities. The children have access to the outside play area through the Ladybird room where there is a shared extensive play area for the children to explore and play, we go out in all weathers and sometimes they will get very wet and muddy.
The Ladybird roomπ ; has a bathroom with toilets and a nappy-changing unit, a sensory room shared with the rest of the nursery, and different learning areas linking to the ‘Prime and Specific areas’ within the room (sensory, small world, construction, maths, role-play, creative, mark-making, book corner), With direct access to the outside area.
The Butterfly room π¦ ; has a bathroom with toilets and a nappy-changing unit, a sensory room, and different learning areas linking to the ‘Prime and Specific areas’ within the room (sensory, small world, construction, maths, role-play, creative, mark-making, book corner, & cosy corner).
All areas are organised to allow children to access the resources they require independently; we ensure that all boxes are clearly labelled so children are able to find what they want.
The double door from the Lady room & Butterfly room both lead out to a large outside area, allowing free-flow access to the garden. The garden has a planted area, conservation area, wildlife area, role-play area, hard surface, outside toilet, climbing apparatus, Mud Kitchen, and orchard area. We have a large grassed area for physical and other development.
The kitchen is incorporated into the Ladybird room with a large serving hatch so children are able to watch and interact with the cook/staff whilst they are in the kitchen. There is also a closable hatch looking into the Caterpillar room. Meals are cooked on the premises using some produce at different times of the year from our garden, we also use the local butchers for all our meat. We endeavour to meet all dietary requirements made known to us by the parents/carers. We find that meal times provide the opportunity for the children to interact with their peers and develop important life skills.
At the Paddocks Nursery & Pre-School we operate a 'key person' system, which means that your child will have one main carer. The key person will work closely with you and your child through observations and assessments to achieve the best possible outcomes for your child during their time at nursery. All the other staff will be supporting a key person too.
In September 2015 the nursery started running an after school club to provide the much needed wrap around care for 4-11 years, this has proved to be very popular. This is ran from Wiveliscombe Primary school site.
